Cornered and disoriented…

“But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.” – James 1:14-15
Over the last few months I have had the opportunity of working security at one of the local gated communities. The other day I had an interesting thing happen. After getting to work, I received a phone call from a homeowner who stated that a large alligator was on her porch. I responded to the house to discover that it was “Big Bertha,” the second largest gator on the plantation. In the middle of the night the 8 foot gator entered their yard and climbed the nine stairs onto the porch and got cornered and disoriented. When I arrived, the gator was in a very defensive mode and I had the exciting privilege of getting to catch it. I called for assistance and we were able to remove it from the porch and relocate it.
While I was on the back of the gator and feeling the power of this amazing creature, there was something that never crossed my mind.

And a Corn Dog When It’s Night..

When I was growing up I was introduced to all sorts of music- from my mom I began to love Jim Croce, Kenny Rogers, Bread and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band… from my dad I listened to and loved Journey, Alice Cooper, The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac.
I will never forget the day when I was introduced to REO Speedwagon. I loved ‘I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore.” Seriously.loved. it. I learned it word for word. Now please understand, by “word for word” I don’t necessarily mean the EXACT words intended by the musicians. We’ve all done this; when we don’t know the precise words, we simply create some that make sense in context. That’s much better than having to drop out of the song in the middle of screaming it at the top of your lungs, right?

Facing others in conflict reveals who we are and what we really believe about God. We know we, servants of Jesus Christ, are in the people-business. People need the deep love of God expressed through another human. Yet humanity is so dysfunctional.

At least I am.
